Nokia's so desperate for an Instagram Windows Phone app that it releases half-hearted clone to raise awareness

Instagram has left an X-Pro-sized hole in the Windows Phone 8 app store selection, so Nokia decided to release the #2InstaWithLove app to grab Instagram's attention and encourage them to release a Windows Phone version of its popular photo app.

Nokia released #2InstaWithLove as a way to mount a grassroots campaign to show Instagram that there is a large enough audience to warrant the company supporting Lumia devices. The app works by applying "classic Polaroid filter" and automatically adding the #2InstaWithLove hashtag when the photo is posted to social networks. It is not meant to be a replacement option for Instagram, the Facebook-owned iPhone and Android photo-sharing application with 100 million users; it's meant to show user desire and prod Instagram into supporting Widows Phone.

Several rumors have previously suggested that Nokia was in talks to encourage Instagram to come to Windows Phone as a Lumia exclusive. However, Instagram has publicly expressed zero interest in making the jump to Windows Phone, which is rather disappointing considering the strength of the camera on the Nokia Lumia 920 camera. Is flooding Facebook and Twitter with the #2InstaWithLove photos going to be good enough to change Instagram's mind?
